At Hand Therapy Experts, we specialise in the splinting of the athlete for hand and finger injuries. Our custom splints are designed to get you back into the sport you love while protecting and supporting your injury.
Depending on the severity of your injury, we can advise on and recommend a healing time frame along with your hand therapist or specialist hand surgeon to fabricate durable material splints that allow you to participate in sport while safely protecting your injury.
Buddy taping is used in stabilising fingers injured by taping the injured finger to an adjacent uninjured finger. This method supports an injury but at the same time allows a degree of motion and has proved ideal when an athlete needs to continue in the particular sport without creating further injury. It can be applied for finger sprains, finger dislocations, and for broken fingers.
Soft thermoplastic splints are custom supports specially designed to help protect and immobilise hand injuries in sports. The flexibility, comfort, and durability afforded by these supports allows the athlete to continue with hand movement while at the same time reducing the risk of re-injury. They are indicated in cases of healing hand fractures and sprained fingers.
Our hand physiotherapist will provide professional advice on return to sport following a hand injury as part of your recovery. This often involves the use of a custom splint or buddy tape when returning to sport in the first couple of weeks after the injury has healed. If you need a customised splint to enable you to return to sport, ring and make an appointment with our Sydney hand therapy clinic.
